Back Yourself

Talking to a new PM recently that was having a hard time because they had to make a decision but weren’t sure about the approach. They knew what they thought was right, but were getting lots of “what about this other thing you haven’t considered?” type feedback.

It’s easy to be on the sidelines and say “but maybe this other thing will happen”, but much harder to be in the chair making the decision.

The truth is that as long as you have considered the reasonable possibilities and can justify your decision, that’s all that matters. There is no perfect information, and you shouldn’t be scared about the ‘told you so’ comments that might follow if the result of your decision was not a good one.
